Shepherd’s Centers of America (SCA) is a network of interfaith community-based organizations that provide meaning and purpose for adults throughout their mature years. SCA’s role is to build and support this nationwide network of member organizations. Shepherd’s Centers all have a commonly understood mission to empower older adults to use their wisdom and skills for the good of their communities.
The Shepherd’s Center philosophy is rooted in the understanding that they are organizations designed and run by volunteers. Volunteers are the key component to the success of our member network. Volunteers are the leaders in providing in-home and community based services for their neighbors. Shepherd’s Centers in conjunction with their community partners also provide their participants with life long learning, health enhancement and cultural enrichment opportunities. Our vision is all individuals will experience meaningful lives through every phase of their mature years.
What Shepherd's Center Brings to Keith's Life
"I worked for General Motors Corporation my entire career and have been retired now for 20 years. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping others, especially older adults. Since retiring I have been involved with a Shepherd's Center in Indiana for going on 18 years. I have served on their board of directors in various capacities including as treasurer and president. Shepherd's Center allows me to be productive as I age. At the Shepherd's Center, I have the opportunity to use many of the management skills that served me so well while I was working. The volunteer activities I do for the center provide me with a sense of personal satisfaction. I know that I am able to make a difference in the lives of others. I also appreciate the caring friends and fellowship. I encourage everyone I meet to take the first step by attending an activity at a Shepherd's Center and become a volunteer."
