he Shepherd's Center of Orange Park celebrated its fifth anniversary May 18, 1998. About 170 participants attended. Dignitaries were recognized, and entertainment was provided by the local high school chorus. An Outstanding Service plaque containing 13 names was unveiled. More names will be added in future years.

Our mission statement is as follows:

The Shepherd's Center of Orange Park is an interfaith, not-for-profit organization with, by and for persons 55 and older, providing support for their intellectual, physical and emotional well-being:

  • With stimulating programs and in-home services
  • With opportunities to use their experience, training and skills in volunteer participation
  • In cooperation with existing service organizations by referral of older adults

e are supported by the following churches: Advent Lutheran, Asbury United Methodist, Calvary United Methodist, Good Samaritan Episcopal, Grace Episcopal, Island View Baptist, Orange Park Presbyterian, Orange Park United Methodist, St. Catherine's Catholic, St. Giles Presbyterian, St. Peter's Lutheran. Our supporters also include Clay Eye Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia Orange Park Medical Center, Ida M. Stevens Foundation, Reinhold Corp., and the Rotary Club of Orange Park.

In the past, we have enjoyed the use of several area churches' facilities for our programs. As we complete our fifth year, our attendance has outgrown the usable space of all the offerings except the Orange Park United Methodist Church, where we hold our Monday classes beginning at 9 a.m. Classes are offered in exercise, travelogue, refresher bridge, word games, Tai Chi, writing, arts and crafts, current events, line dancing, and Bible study.
